this was my last day of defeat map, made shortly before the release of dod source. i spent a lot of time perfecting this map, making it as detailed as possible while keeping the FPS and r_speeds low. unfortunately it got overlooked because of source and never really became popular. but since it was such a great example of proper goldsource mapping, i released the RMF file for it (so people can open it and look at everything in the editor).
Well damn man. Putting all that time in and then getting usurped by the next big thing? That just sucks!
I looked through the screenshots. Really good looking stuff. After doing a little mapping for CS 1.5 I understood really quick that anyone who could make something look remotely good on that old ass engine, is really talented.
Looking through this stuff, I think it might be interesting to provide a manner in which to host user made maps. Hmmmm.
oh i agree completely. it is really difficult to make pretty maps on the old engine because of all the limitations, and well, the blocky nature of it all. 98% of the custom day of defeat maps look hideously ugly, which is why i wanted to take the time to create a map with great gameplay that also looks good, and i'm glad someone else recognizes that! I believe it took something like 6 months from start to finish on each of these maps, which is a huge amount of time (probably working on it from 2-4 hours per day). however, i enjoyed every minute of developing them so it wasn't so bad
uploading user maps would be awesome. i kind of did it on deviantart, but they don't have a section for it either haha. just had to squeeze it into 3d modeling or something like that
